LESSONS FOR YOUNGER LEARNERS

Early childhood is the ideal time to start learning a second language. There is a window of opportunity at this stage in their development which enables children to acquire a second language effortlessly, and as easily as they learn their first language. This is especially so of learning sounds, which will allow them to speak the language with an almost native like accent and language structures, such as word order, which are absorbed and retained in their brains so they can be developed later on.

Young children are uniquely suited to learning a second language. A child’s brain is very active while is developing. Brain changes as we grow older and the ability to distinguish different sounds in a foreign language diminishes. As adults we get our own language patterns interfering in the language learnt, making it more difficult to learn it properly.
